2027 planning: Opening Week and main-draw dates are published. Individual ticket prices and sale dates still need announcement; 2026 comparisons are labelled.
The tournament in brief
Roland-Garros is the clay-court Grand Slam in west Paris, at Stade Roland-Garros, 2 avenue Gordon-Bennett, 75016 Paris. The organiser’s 2027 information gives Opening Week as 17–21 May and the main draw as 23 May–6 June. Allow a separate visit if you want both qualifying and main-draw tennis: a ticket covers its advertised date and session, not the whole three-week event.
Philippe-Chatrier is the main arena; Suzanne-Lenglen and Simonne-Mathieu are the other principal show courts. Smaller courts make the early rounds a rewarding time to wander and discover a match at close range. Check the daily Order of Play for the court programme and the practice schedule for training sessions. Buying a named stadium secures its seat allocation, but cannot promise a particular player or a draw outcome.

Opening Week and qualifying
Opening Week takes place at the main stadium site, which makes it an appealing first taste of the tournament. Qualifying players compete for places in the singles main draw while established players prepare nearby. The official 2026 Opening Week description included outside-court qualifying, open seating on Suzanne-Lenglen and practice access on Philippe-Chatrier. Check the 2027 product for its exact court inclusions and any separately ticketed special event.
A dated budget example is €29 (about £25) for Friday 22 May during Opening Week 2026, quoted by the organiser. This is not a 2027 tariff. Spend time on the qualifying courts as well as the practice sessions: the competitive matches are the point of this ticket. Come with a couple of court choices so a busy unreserved stand does not determine your entire day.

How to get tickets
Use tickets.rolandgarros.com and create the official ticketing account before a sale opens. In October 2026, individual tickets for the 2027 edition are not yet on sale; official travel and hospitality packages are available. Priority phases can have their own eligibility, so read the current announcement if you qualify through the FFT or another offered category. The 2026 outside-court and Opening Week public phase opened on 31 March; that is a historical example, not the new edition’s sale date.
For a standard visit, compare the date, named court, session and access to smaller courts before payment. The official resale route belongs to the organiser’s ticketing platform: use that route for returned tickets and read the new edition’s release and transfer instructions. Keep the account email, ticket app and required identification ready. A seller offering “French Open tickets” elsewhere is not automatically an official route.
| Route | When | What you get | Rough price / year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening Week | 17–21 May 2027; individual sale TBC | Qualifying/practice as advertised | 2026 Friday example €29 |
| Outside courts / grounds | Official public sale and resale | Date-specific unreserved court access | 2027 individual tariff not yet published |
| Philippe-Chatrier day | Official court/session sale | Reserved main-court seat and specified extras | 2027 tariff TBC |
| Suzanne-Lenglen / Simonne-Mathieu | Official dated court products | Named court seat; check later-round changes | 2027 tariff TBC |
| Philippe-Chatrier night | Separately ticketed evening | Night-session seat and stated entry time | 2027 tariff TBC |
| Official ticket + hotel | 2027 travel packages available | Package-specific admission and hotel stay | 2027 from €200 Opening Week / €330 first round; package, not ticket-only |
The 2026 Opening Week example and 2027 ticket-plus-hotel package starting prices are different products. A package figure includes accommodation as advertised; it should not be compared with admission alone. For other courts, the individual 2027 price grid still needs publication. Keep the final booking total separate from train travel, meals and hotel nights.

Which ticket and which day
An opening main-draw day offers the widest choice of singles across the grounds. Later rounds concentrate the best surviving players on fewer courts, while doubles, junior and wheelchair schedules can add variety. Pick early rounds if seeing plenty of live tennis matters most; choose a show-court seat and the relevant round if your priority is a sustained main-arena programme.
Day and night sessions are separate purchases. The current official travel FAQ describes night-ticket entry from 6:30pm, so check your ticket before arriving early and assuming you can spend the afternoon inside. Ground or outside-court access is not a promise of reserved seats on Chatrier, Lenglen or Mathieu. Late in the event, courts can change category; use the current date-specific inclusions.
If you only have one day: choose an early main-draw day with a reserved show-court seat if your budget permits, then allow time for outside courts. Opening Week is a strong lower-cost alternative when you value close-up qualifying and practice. Keep your evening flexible so a long match remains a pleasure.

Getting there from the UK
Eurostar runs from London St Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord in about 2 hours 16 minutes. That is the train journey, not a door-to-gate allowance: add the arrival time recommended for your ticket, border controls and the Paris transfer. A practical Métro route from Gare du Nord is line 4 to Odéon, then line 10 towards the tournament area; check RATP for the appropriate westbound service and station on the day. Allow roughly 60–90 minutes from Gare du Nord to the gate as an editorial planning estimate.
If you fly, the main airports are Charles de Gaulle and Orly. RER B links Charles de Gaulle with central Paris; allow roughly 35–50 minutes to the central stations, plus terminal walking and waiting. Orly’s line 14 journey to Châtelet is about 25 minutes. The 2026 Paris Région Aéroports rail ticket is €14 one way for a full-fare adult, covering the relevant airport rail journey. Use the specific airport ticket, not an ordinary local Métro fare.
An airport taxi is another option if luggage or access needs make transfers awkward; obtain the current official fare before departure. For tennis on arrival day, a train delay, immigration line or hotel check-in can eat your match time. Arrive the previous day when the ticket is the centrepiece of your trip.

Getting there on your tennis day
Métro line 10 to Porte d’Auteuil is a familiar approach. Line 9 provides alternatives at Michel-Ange–Molitor or Porte de Saint-Cloud; the best one depends on the gate and security checkpoint on your ticket. RATP also lists buses 52, 88, 123 and 241 near the stadium. Tournament restrictions can remove the normal Roland-Garros bus stop, so follow the current event map and stop notices.
A Boulogne-Billancourt base can make walking a useful alternative to a crowded station. Trace the hotel-to-checkpoint route before you book and allow time for the perimeter security approach. Wear shoes suited to both city pavements and a long day in the grounds. Driving adds parking and restriction questions; public transport or a local walk is usually the simpler first comparison.
After a night session, check the last service for every leg of your trip and save a taxi fallback. Paris is not one small walkable hotel district: a room near Gare du Nord serves the Eurostar well but adds a long cross-city journey after tennis. Keep the correct hotel address saved offline and agree where your group will meet if you leave through different gates.

Accessibility
Book a PMR or disability-appropriate ticket through the official process and confirm the companion arrangement before paying. Ask which show-court viewing area and access route the product includes. The organiser identifies accessible stadium facilities, but a reserved ordinary seat may still involve steps. Check the map for toilets, lifts and the route from your security checkpoint to the actual viewing position.
Most of the older Paris Métro is not step-free. RATP identifies line 14 as fully wheelchair accessible; it does not run directly to Roland-Garros. RER A and B can provide accessible parts of a journey with staff boarding ramps, followed by a suitable bus or taxi. Paris bus routes are declared accessible, but individual stops can remain unsuitable. Verify each stop, lift and connection with RATP instead of relying on a Métro-line colour alone.
For a simpler arrival, compare an accessible taxi or a bus route ending near the correct checkpoint. Contact the organiser if you need drop-off arrangements and tell your accommodation what equipment you use. The shortest route on a map is not necessarily the easiest street crossing or gate approach.

Entry requirements for UK visitors
For a full British-citizen passport, GOV.UK says short tourist visits to Schengen countries can be visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The passport must have been issued less than ten years before arrival and expire at least three months after the intended Schengen departure. Count time spent in other Schengen countries too.
GOV.UK says the Entry/Exit System is being implemented, with biometric registration at the border and no EES registration fee. Eurostar checks take place before leaving the UK; allow extra border time. ETIAS is not in operation as checked on 8 October 2026, according to the EU’s official site. Recheck before a 2027 trip because that status can change.
Read GOV.UK France entry requirements for your circumstances. These requirements were checked on 8 October 2026. Always check GOV.UK before you book.
For ETIAS, check the official launch position again before your 2027 journey. GOV.UK currently says no action is required from travellers at this point; do not apply until the official process opens.

Money and time
Paris uses euros (€). Sterling comparisons use the ECB reference rate on 8 October 2026: €1 = £0.84698, rounded to whole pounds for examples. These are budgeting conversions, not the rate your card provider will necessarily use. Check foreign-transaction charges and compare the total in euros before approving a purchase.
At tournament time Paris is one hour ahead of the UK. A 7pm Paris booking is 6pm in Britain, but your ticket and local transport clocks use Paris time. France’s tourism authority explains that restaurant prices generally include service; check “service compris” on the bill and treat an extra tip as your choice for good service.
Take a card or phone wallet, plus a backup. The official online ticket and shop routes support card payments. Check the organiser’s visitor page for the 2027 on-site payment options before you travel.

Weather, heat and roofs
Late May and early June can bring sunny afternoons, showers and cooler evenings. Pack sunscreen, a hat, a light rain layer and something warmer for a night session. Philippe-Chatrier and Suzanne-Lenglen have roofs; outside courts remain exposed. A roof over one arena does not protect a grounds-ticket day from interruption, and roof operation can briefly pause play.
The organiser’s 2026 live coverage records both roofs in use during rain. For 2027, follow official match and weather announcements, including any heat-related scheduling decisions. Follow the referee’s instructions if heat changes the schedule. Locate a shaded rest area and water point early, and take breaks before the heat or a long standing queue makes your day uncomfortable.
Read the weather policy for the ticket route you actually buy. A package, day ticket and night session can have different terms. Keep paid sightseeing on a separate day so a rain delay does not force you to choose between the tennis and a timed museum booking.

What to bring and entry rules
The organiser’s published visitor rules allow bags with a capacity of less than 15 litres. Take a compact day bag, leave overnight luggage at your accommodation and read the 2027 prohibited-items list before packing. Make security checks easy with the ticket, identification and small essentials accessible. An airline cabin bag should not be treated as a suitable stadium bag.
For food and drink, use the current visitor rules to check the permitted containers and personal allowance before bringing a picnic. The new edition’s container details should be confirmed before purchase or packing. A small snack, where permitted, is easier to manage than a bulky lunch spread. Bring your charged phone, a power bank and sun protection; check the day’s map for water points and bag storage before setting off.
The published 2027 FFT Travel terms provide free lap admission for one child under four per ticketed accompanying adult, with proof of identity and a barcode wristband. Check the conditions attached to your own ticket route. Compare child tickets and plan a family tennis day.

Food and drink at the venue
Food areas and fan spaces can be part of the visit, but put the matches you most want to see first. The 2026 programme included the Jardin des Chefs near Simonne-Mathieu and an off-site Tribune Concorde fan zone at Place de la Concorde. Those are dated examples: wait for the 2027 programme before planning a meal or free screening around them.
Choose a natural gap between matches for lunch and ask outlet staff about ingredients if you have allergies. Keep enough time to return to your reserved seat without moving during a point. A fan-zone screen can provide a flexible place to rest, but does not give admission to a show court. Locate a water refill point on the current map and keep your bottle topped up.

Where to stay
We may earn a commission if you book through some links, at no extra cost to you.
Choose your Paris base by the tennis journey and the evenings you want. Auteuil or Boulogne can give you a local walk; a central Left Bank room offers sightseeing with more travel. Gare du Nord is useful for luggage and the Eurostar, but is a distant base for several tennis days. Check air conditioning, lift access and the exact station connection before comparing room prices.
Journey times are door-to-gate estimates from a well-connected spot in each area. They include waiting and the final walk; your hotel address, transport disruption and event crowds can change them. Price levels are a rough guide: check live prices for your dates. Compare total room costs, breakfast, local taxes and cancellation deadlines for the same dates and occupants. For a night session, check the return journey as carefully as the morning route.

Make a weekend of it
The Bois de Boulogne and a Seine walk are flexible ways to add a change of pace. Keep your most ambitious sightseeing on a non-tennis day and check any museum’s own opening calendar. A river outing after a long match can be enjoyable if it is flexible; a prepaid last departure leaves less room for the tennis to run late.
The Tenniseum is an auditorium and museum-gallery space inside the stadium. The 2026 programme offered public player-interview sessions there during Opening Week, but the 2027 public museum programme has not been announced yet. Use the official stadium-tour booking route for an advertised visit outside the event and check exactly what the tour includes; avoid assuming an unrestricted walk-in museum visit.
For an evening, choose dinner near the hotel after a day session, or eat before heading to a night session. Paris travel time is easy to underestimate when you add hotel stops and station stairs. Put a theatre booking on your free evening and let your tennis day finish at its own pace.

Planning timeline
In October–December 2026, create the official ticket account, follow the organiser’s 2027 sales notice and compare local bases. Check passport validity while there is time to replace it. In January–February 2027, review the announced priority and public phases, then decide between Opening Week, a day show court and a night session.
In March–April, match travel to tickets actually secured and revisit hotel cancellation dates. Check EES and ETIAS status again before booking a non-refundable journey. In early May, review the stadium map, access arrangements and current packing rules. The evening before attendance, read the Order of Play and check RATP disruption; on the day, allow time for the security checkpoint and your court walk.

More Grand Slam trips
Compare Wimbledon for a London grass-court visit, the Australian Open for Melbourne’s summer, and the US Open for New York’s late-summer hard courts. Each Grand Slam has different ticket and session rules.
Start with the trip length you can manage and the style of tennis day you want, then compare admission, accommodation and flights or rail as one total. A budget Opening Week visit can leave more room for sightseeing; a final is a different purchase with fewer matches and a much more focused programme.
