2027 planning: The WTA main-draw range remains provisional pending USTA confirmation. Fan Week dates and 2027 prices are not yet published; historical examples are marked 2026.
The tournament in brief
The US Open takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens. Arthur Ashe Stadium is its main arena, with Louis Armstrong Stadium, Grandstand and the outside courts offering different ways to spend a tennis day. New York is a rewarding city break as well as a tournament destination, so begin by deciding how many days belong to tennis and how many to the city.
The WTA listing gives 29 August–12 September 2027 for the main draw. Treat that range as provisional until the USTA publishes its 2027 dates. Fan Week and qualifying dates for 2027 are not yet published. Use refundable travel arrangements until the organiser confirms the programme you intend to attend.

Opening Week and qualifying
Fan Week can be an excellent introduction without buying a main-draw stadium seat. The confirmed historical example is 23–29 August 2026, with free qualifying matches on 24–27 August. The event also included practice and fan activities. The 2027 schedule needs publication; do not work backwards from a provisional main-draw start and treat the resulting week as confirmed.
Free grounds activities and ticketed special events are different products. Check whether a Fan Access Pass registration is needed for your chosen activation and whether an evening exhibition requires separate admission. Read the exact day’s programme before travelling across the city. Qualifying is competitive tennis for main-draw places, so it is worth choosing matches with the same care as an early main-draw day.
Arrive with a first court and a backup, allow time for security, and make space for water and food. A free visit still has city transport and meal costs. If you plan to visit on more than one qualifying day, choose a hotel with a straightforward Queens connection and keep your sightseeing schedule flexible.

How to get tickets
Reach the official seller through usopen.org: the US Open ticket route uses Ticketmaster, including official verified resale where offered. Check whether the listing is an original sale or resale and inspect the named court, date, session and seat before paying. Do not rely on a seller’s broad “US Open admission” description when your aim is a specific arena.
Compare the price for your exact date, round, day or night session and seating category. Ticketmaster’s 2026 overview listed starting prices across different inventory without naming the sessions, so those figures are not a like-for-like court comparison. Use the official booking summary to compare equivalent choices. The 2027 session prices have not been announced yet.
| Route | When | What you get | Rough price / year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan Week qualifying | 2027 dates TBC | Advertised qualifying and free activities; special events separate | 2026 qualifying: free |
| Arthur Ashe day | Named day session | Reserved Ashe seat and specified grounds access | 2027 session tariff: check the official US$ booking summary when sales open |
| Arthur Ashe night | Separate night session | Reserved Ashe seat; specified evening entry | 2027 session tariff: check the official US$ booking summary when sales open |
| Louis Armstrong | Named reserved-seat product | Armstrong seat, not an Ashe seat | 2027 session tariff: check the official US$ booking summary when sales open |
| Grandstand | Named reserved-seat product | Grandstand seat, not an Ashe seat | 2027 session tariff: check the official US$ booking summary when sales open |
| Grounds admission | Chosen published day | Listed outside and unreserved court access, not Ashe | 2027 session tariff: check the official US$ booking summary when sales open |
Ticketmaster’s current all-in pricing policy displays mandatory ticket fees in the upfront total, generally before tax. Do not automatically add an invented fee percentage to that figure; read the actual booking summary for applicable taxes and the final charge. Resale pricing can differ from original face value. Compare equivalent dates and seating categories, then include transport, meals and accommodation in the full trip budget.

Which ticket and which day
An Arthur Ashe ticket provides a reserved seat for the named Ashe session plus the stated grounds access. In the published 2026 rules, that included first-come seating in the unreserved parts of Armstrong and Grandstand, alongside the outside courts. Armstrong and Grandstand reserved-seat products do not include Ashe. Grounds admission offers the listed unreserved courts, not an Ashe seat. Recheck those inclusions for the 2027 product.
Early main-draw days give the greatest singles variety across the grounds. Later rounds concentrate headline matches into fewer courts, while doubles, juniors and wheelchair events can offer other choices. An expensive late-round seat gives a focused programme, not automatically more hours of varied tennis. Choose the style of day you want before choosing the stadium name.
Day and night sessions are separately ticketed. The published 2026 visitor information gave 6pm entry for night tickets; the new edition’s instructions will determine your own arrival time. A night seat is not an all-day pass. If you only have one day: choose an early main-draw day with an Ashe reserved seat if budget allows, then visit outside courts between arena matches. Choose grounds admission if you prefer a flexible day and are comfortable with unreserved queues.

Getting there from the UK
British Airways describes a London–New York flight as about eight hours. Direct UK arrivals commonly use JFK or Newark; LaGuardia mainly serves a different flight network and should not be assumed to offer your direct London flight. Check the actual airport code, arrival time and onward connection before booking. Give immigration, luggage and hotel check-in their own allowance before your first paid session.
For JFK, the MTA’s current route uses AirTrain to Jamaica or Howard Beach, then subway or LIRR. Checked in October 2026, AirTrain is US$8.75 and a subway ride US$3, making US$11.75 (about £9) for that combination. The operator’s listed AirTrain-plus-LIRR examples were US$14 off-peak or US$16 peak; check the correct rail fare for your train and destination. Allow roughly 60–90 minutes to a Midtown hotel by the subway route as an editorial estimate, including waiting and the final walk.
LaGuardia’s Q70 airport bus is free and connects with the subway at Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue / 74 Street. With the current US$3 subway fare, that combination costs US$3 before any extra journey. The M60 SBS is another airport option for suitable uptown destinations. Allow roughly 45–75 minutes to Midtown as a planning estimate. A taxi or transfer can avoid luggage changes, but compare the actual fare, tolls and airport charges.

Getting there on your tennis day
The 7 subway line stops at Mets–Willets Point for the tennis centre; follow event signs through the park and allow time for the security queue. From Midtown, use a station such as Grand Central on the 7. The MTA’s tennis guide also identifies LIRR Port Washington branch services from Penn Station, Grand Central Madison and Woodside. LIRR requires its own valid ticket; check the stopping pattern because not every train is the same.
Driving adds event traffic, parking cost and a final walk. Check the organiser’s current parking arrangement, especially when baseball and tennis crowds coincide. Public transport is the useful starting comparison for most central hotel bases. Keep the stadium approach saved offline and do not schedule a tight dinner booking around a match that may run long.
Plan to use the 7 train or LIRR; the published transport routes do not include a direct NYC Ferry connection. Seastreak advertised selected 2026 US Open trips from Belford, New Jersey; that private service is not a general NYC Ferry connection and no 2027 schedule is confirmed. Use subway or LIRR as the default plan and only book a boat when an actual operator publishes your date, landing place and return departure.

Accessibility
Book ADA seating through the official ticket route and check the viewing position and companion arrangements. An ordinary stadium seat can involve steps, even where the building has accessible facilities. The US Open’s guests-with-disabilities information covers on-site assistance and services; contact the organiser about a requirement that the ticket listing does not resolve. Plan the route from the arrival point to your actual court, not only to the park boundary.
Mets–Willets Point has a particular subway access arrangement. The MTA says the Flushing-bound 7 platform has an accessible event exit via a ramp. For an accessible return towards Manhattan, its instructions are to board a Flushing-bound train, remain aboard at Flushing–Main Street and return towards Manhattan. Check the current event instructions and station notices. The LIRR Mets–Willets Point station is not accessible, so it is not an interchangeable step-free option.
For an alternative, compare a suitable accessible bus or prearranged vehicle with the final gate route. Check every interchange and any lift outage before travelling. If your hotel advertises an accessible room, confirm its actual features and the street-to-room route. A short distance can still contain a difficult crossing or a crowded approach.

Entry requirements for UK visitors
GOV.UK says British visitors must meet the relevant passport and entry-permission requirements. For an eligible visit under the Visa Waiver Program, apply for an ESTA through the official route; circumstances can instead require a visa. Check eligibility and approval before flying. Do not assume that holding a British passport makes every traveller or travel history eligible.
The passport must be valid for the proposed stay, and an ESTA or visa does not guarantee admission at the border. Read GOV.UK USA entry requirements and follow its US-authority links for your circumstances. These requirements were checked on 8 October 2026. Leave time to resolve the correct route before committing to a non-refundable tennis holiday.

Money and time
Prices use US dollars, written US$. Sterling illustrations use the ECB rates dated 8 October 2026, equivalent to US$1 ≈ £0.757; examples are rounded to whole pounds. Compare the local-currency total first. Card conversion rates, foreign-transaction charges and any provider markup can change the sterling amount that reaches your statement.
New York is five hours behind the UK during the late-August and September tournament period. A 7pm session is midnight in Britain. Tipping is customary for table service: the NYC hotel concierges’ visitor information suggests 18–20% for restaurant servers. Check whether gratuity is already included before adding more, and allow for any separately stated sales tax when budgeting a meal.
Take a card or phone wallet, plus a backup. The organiser’s 2026 on-site promotions covered card purchases at participating merchants. Check the 2027 visitor page for accepted payment methods before you travel.

Weather, heat and roofs
Late summer in New York can bring heat, humidity, strong sun and sudden rain. Pack a hat, sunscreen, a light rain layer and a permitted refillable bottle. Check the forecast for the actual day, and leave time for breaks in shade. An evening can be more comfortable, but it can still be humid and your journey home may be late.
Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong have retractable roofs; Grandstand and the outside courts remain exposed. A roofed reserved seat gives a more protected viewing base, although closing a roof can interrupt play. Grounds admission cannot guarantee a free unreserved roofed seat during a shower. Read the ticket’s current weather policy before assuming any delay triggers a refund.
The US Open has used extreme-heat procedures, including match breaks, under its event policy. The 2027 heat procedures have not been announced yet. Follow the referee’s announcements and the organiser’s current visitor information. Do not make a forecast temperature your personal test for whether play should continue. Find refill points and a rest area early, and take a break before heat and long queues take the pleasure out of the visit.

What to bring and entry rules
The published 2026 US Open rule permits bags no larger than 12 inches wide, 12 inches high and 16 inches long, and prohibits backpacks. A bag being clear does not override the size or backpack restrictions. The cited 2026 notice does not specify a clear-bag requirement; check the 2027 rules for bag materials as well as size. Leave luggage at the hotel and select a small compliant bag before entering the security line.
The same 2026 information allowed metal or plastic refillable bottles up to 24 ounces, with glass and cans prohibited. Check the new edition’s food and container allowances before bringing refreshments. External bag storage was offered for a fee in 2026, but its location, opening time and 2027 availability need confirmation. Keep tickets and essential items easy to reach and allow time for searches.
Bring a charged phone, compact power bank and sun protection, subject to the current prohibited-items list. If your party arrives separately, agree a meeting point outside security and a second point inside. Avoid carrying a bulky picnic or an item that would force you back to storage after a long queue.
The 2026 US Open visitor FAQ requires a full-price adult ticket from age two. Check the next edition’s terms and any separate family-day product before buying. Compare child tickets and plan a family tennis day.

Food and drink at the venue
The US Open Food Village offers a range of dining options, with the organiser publishing a 2026 menu programme. Use the 2027 map for current outlets and opening times. A well-chosen lunch break makes it easier to enjoy the afternoon: eat between matches you most want to watch, and keep queue time in mind when moving back to a show court.
Ask an outlet about ingredients and preparation if you have dietary requirements. Keep food, drinks and any optional tips in a separate daily budget from the ticket. A branded cocktail or souvenir cup is an extra, not a necessary part of the day. Refill water using the marked facilities and make a quieter rest stop before heading into another exposed court. For a night session, an early city meal can keep the evening simpler.

Where to stay
We may earn a commission if you book through some links, at no extra cost to you.
Midtown near Grand Central makes the 7 train an easy starting point. Long Island City can shorten the Queens leg, while Flushing offers a more local base. The Upper East Side and Brooklyn can work for a city holiday but need a carefully checked connection. An airport-area room may suit an early departure more than several evenings in Manhattan. Compare the full journey before choosing the cheapest room.
Journey times are door-to-gate estimates from a well-connected spot in each area. They include waiting and the final walk; your hotel address, transport disruption and event crowds can change them. Price levels are a rough guide: check live prices for your dates. Compare total room costs, breakfast, local taxes and cancellation deadlines for the same dates and occupants. For a night session, check the return journey as carefully as the morning route.

Make a weekend of it
Flushing Meadows Corona Park gives you a change of pace near the tennis centre. The Unisphere and Queens Museum are possible additions on a free day; check the museum’s own opening hours and any event restrictions before fixing a timed visit. Leave park sightseeing outside the ticketed session so you have room to enjoy both.
For Manhattan evenings, choose a meal near the hotel after a day session or put theatre on a non-tennis night. A fixed curtain time is a poor fit after a match that can run well past its expected finish. Save an alternative return route and give the city its own time, particularly if this is your first New York visit.
A Mets game at nearby Citi Field can make a second sports outing if the team’s actual home schedule fits your trip. Check MLB and the Mets before booking and remember that simultaneous events affect trains, parking and crowds. A baseball ticket does not provide tennis access or shared parking entitlement.

Planning timeline
In autumn 2026, follow USTA announcements for 2027 dates and ticket releases, review passport and ESTA or visa eligibility, and compare refundable hotel bases. Keep the WTA main-draw range provisional until the organiser confirms it. Once the ticket sale is announced, decide between an early-round day, a night session and a later-round arena visit.
In spring and summer 2027, book the exact ticket through the official route and match accommodation and flights to it. Revisit any hotel cancellation deadline. In August, check Fan Week announcements, current bag and payment rules, airport transfer fares and MTA event access. The evening before attendance, read the Order of Play and save your ticket. On the day, leave enough time for the train, park walk and security queue.

Compare Wimbledon for a UK grass-court visit, Roland-Garros for Paris by rail, and the Australian Open for Melbourne in January. New York offers a different city holiday, with summer conditions and separate day and night ticket choices.
Start with the total trip length and the kind of match day you want. A first-week day can offer wide variety; a final is a focused and very different purchase. Keep the complete local-currency budget in view, and allow the holiday enough flexibility for weather, late matches and an enjoyable evening back in the city.
