2027 planning: The ATP and WTA tournaments take place in different months. Ticket examples are exact historical WTA tariffs.
The tournament in brief
Hamburg offers two separate clay-court trips in 2027. The men’s Hamburg Open is an ATP 500 with main-draw play on 16–22 May; the whole event starts with qualifying on 15 May. The MSC Hamburg Ladies Open is a WTA 250 whose 2027 main draw is listed by the WTA for 12–18 July. Both use the Am Rothenbaum tennis centre. Choose the tour and month before looking at flights: a July booking will not take you to the men’s ATP event.
The men’s website uses Hamburg Open on its 2027 ticket page, while other pages retain the Bitpanda sponsor title. Use the organiser’s own current event name at booking. The women’s 2027 WTA listing uses MSC Hamburg Ladies Open. They have separate organisers and ticket sites, so a court seat for one tournament will not admit you to the other. This guide shares the city and hotel planning while keeping their dates and tickets distinct.

Tickets and court access
For the ATP tournament, follow Tickets from hamburgopenatp500.com into its official shop. The organiser describes regular numbered Centre Court seats with access to outside courts; a Ground Ticket excludes Centre Court. For the women’s event, use hamburg-open.com and its own linked shop. Compare date, seat category, concessions and the final payment total before choosing either trip.
Prices vary by day and seat. The official ticket site shows live prices. The examples below are exact historical WTA prices, not ATP prices or 2027 quotes: all are KAT 2 on the named 2026 dates. Approximate sterling uses the ECB’s 9 October 2026 rate, €1 = £0.84763, rounded and excluding your bank’s charges.
| Exact historical WTA day | Seat category / court | EUR price / year | Approximate GBP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday 20 July 2026 · qualifying / first round | KAT 2 · Centre Court | €25 · 2026 | About £21 |
| Wednesday 22 July 2026 · second round | KAT 2 · Centre Court | €45 · 2026 | About £38 |
| Friday 24 July 2026 · quarter-finals | KAT 2 · Centre Court | €75 · 2026 | About £64 |
| Sunday 26 July 2026 · final | KAT 2 · Centre Court | €65 · 2026 | About £55 |
An early main-draw day usually offers more court choice; a later-round seat puts the remaining singles programme at the centre of your day. Buy a date you can enjoy regardless of the draw. If one player matters most, wait for the Order of Play before making a final choice, accepting that ticket availability can tighten. Keep the ticket account accessible and save the admission document offline before travelling.

Getting there from the UK
Hamburg Airport has a rail link into the city, making a flight-and-train trip straightforward to plan. Its S1 journey to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof takes approximately 25 minutes. Add border checks, luggage collection and waiting time before comparing that with a taxi. The 2026 standard HVV adult single for Hamburg AB / two rings is €4.10, approximately £3.50; check the route coverage and current tariff before travel.
Use the airport’s current public-transport information for your arrival, then plan the hotel transfer with HVV. A hotel near the tennis may need a different connection from a hotel beside Hauptbahnhof. Price the full trip, including luggage allowances and late-arrival arrangements, when comparing UK departures. An inexpensive flight can be poor value if you need a costly taxi after the last suitable train.
For an all-rail holiday, begin with Eurostar to continental Europe and plan onward German trains with Deutsche Bahn. Compare connection protection, changes and total travelling time, not just the advertised fare. Arrive the afternoon before your first tennis day when possible. That gives you time to find the hotel, buy any transport ticket and check the next morning’s route without sacrificing play if the international journey is delayed.

Getting there on the day
Hallerstraße on the U1 is the principal local stop for the Rothenbaum grounds. From Hauptbahnhof, use the U1 route shown by HVV and allow time for the station exit, walk and entry queue. The tennis is a city visit, so a car is usually unnecessary once you have reached your hotel. The ATP organiser says the event provides no parking and nearby spaces are limited.
Before leaving, save both your outward route and a sensible return option. If your hotel is in another neighbourhood, check whether a late finish changes the connection. A taxi can be a useful fallback for a group, but agree a pickup point away from the busiest exit. Give yourself enough time to reach your reserved section before the match you most want; arriving at the station is not the same as taking your seat.
Read the entry rules for the tournament you are attending. The ATP FAQ’s 2026 rules include a small-bag limit and prohibit outside food and drink, with no lockers listed. Leave luggage at the hotel and check the new edition’s list before packing. Buy any refreshments inside and keep a payment backup. The July WTA visit has its own conditions, so consult its organiser separately.

Accessibility
Ask the relevant organiser about wheelchair viewing, companion arrangements and the entrance route before buying a standard ticket. Hamburg’s men’s and women’s events can have different concession and booking rules even at the same venue. The women’s 2026 ticket page lists wheelchair and companion provisions, but request the 2027 arrangements for the day you want and ask what proof a UK visitor should provide.
Check the complete journey as well as the seat. HVV can help you plan step-free connections and identify changes caused by lift faults or works. Allow time for the station exit and queue, and consider a taxi if the walking section would be difficult. For accommodation, request the exact bathroom and lift features you need. Confirm room access directly with the hotel; a general accessibility label tells you little about an individual bedroom.

Entry requirements for UK visitors
Entry rules were checked on 9 October 2026. For a full British citizen passport, the issue date must be less than ten years before arrival and expiry at least three months after your planned departure from Schengen. Tourist visits normally fit the visa-free allowance of 90 days in any 180, including time in other Schengen countries. Always check GOV.UK before you book.
EES registration can involve a photo and fingerprints, without a registration fee. Allow extra border time. GOV.UK says ETIAS is expected from Autumn 2026; no action is required from travellers at this point, checked 11 October 2026. Carry documents required by any transit country and your transport operator. Germany uses euros and is one hour ahead of the UK during these tournament weeks. Save the match programme and travel bookings in local time.
For ETIAS, check the official launch position again before your 2027 journey. GOV.UK currently says no action is required from travellers at this point; do not apply until the official process opens.

Where to stay
Hotel links are affiliate links to Booking.com via CJ. We may earn a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you.
Rotherbaum is the convenient tennis-first choice, while Eppendorf and the Alster side give other northern-city options. Hauptbahnhof works well for airport and long-distance trains; the centre is useful if a city break matters as much as the matches. Choose the property by its actual walking or U-Bahn route, not simply a Hamburg postal address.
Compare cancellation terms while deciding whether you want May ATP tennis or July WTA tennis. They are different stays and can have different hotel demand. Add breakfasts, transport and any parking charge when comparing room totals. Ask about luggage storage and late check-in if your arrival or departure falls outside reception hours. For several tennis days, a slightly dearer room with an easy daily journey can be the more restful choice.

Make a weekend of it
For a men’s semi-final and final break, note the 2027 programme finishes on Saturday 22 May. Arrive Thursday or Friday and leave Sunday if you want an unhurried final. For the women’s July week, choose your dated session first and build the hotel nights around it. Avoid a return flight close to the expected end of a match; long rallies, third sets and rain can all extend a day.
Use a free morning for a walk by the Alster or a city-centre meal, and leave harbour sightseeing for a separate part of the trip. A relaxed three-night stay can balance one or two tennis days with time in Hamburg. Book timed attractions only when you know which morning is free. After a long day in a stand, a nearby dinner is often more useful than another journey across the city.
Take comfortable shoes, a light waterproof, sun protection and a warm layer. May and July can call for different clothing, so check the forecast shortly before departure. Save the Order of Play, ticket and return route, charge your phone and identify the court you want first. Move between courts during permitted pauses and leave enough time for a meal break: you will enjoy the final matches more if you have not spent the entire day rushing.

Berlin Tennis Open is a WTA 500 on grass in June, a different surface and a different month from Hamburg’s July women’s event. Halle is a men’s ATP 500 grass event, while Barcelona, Rome and Madrid offer other clay-court breaks. Use the separate guides to compare travel distance, ticket rights and the part of the season you most enjoy.
For a longer rail holiday, a second German city can work well, but leave travel time between ticketed days. A season-long directory entry is not an invitation to assume events are simultaneous. Check each guide’s main-draw dates, then buy separate admission and transport. If you prefer a single short break, choose the Hamburg tour you want and spend your remaining time enjoying the city.
