2027 planning: 2027 calendars and Central Court sessions are published. Match allocations and times can change.

The tournament in brief

Rome gives you men's and women's top-level clay tennis in the same trip. The Internazionali BNL d'Italia is ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 in the 2027 calendars, at the Foro Italico in northern Rome. The women's main-draw dates are 4–16 May; the men's competition begins on 5 May, with its singles final scheduled for 16 May. The official schedule currently puts the women's singles final on Saturday 15 May. Choose the competition and session you want before making travel arrangements.

For a first visit, an early main-draw day offers a useful balance between watching tennis and enjoying Rome. Later sessions narrow the match choice while bringing you closer to the titles. If you have one day only, book a court and session that gives you an assigned seat, arrive before play, and leave spare time for the wider grounds when your ticket allows it. A particular player is never guaranteed by a date or a ticket category; the order of play settles who plays where.

Tickets and court choices

Start with the official tournament ticketing website and choose the exact date, court, session and seating category. The Central Court tariff gives concrete 2027 prices, so the examples below compare the same Distinti category across two early days. They are face values, with a 10% pre-sale charge and an additional service charge on top. Read the final checkout amount before comparing sellers or deciding what the trip will cost.

The sterling figures use the site's 8 October 2026 ECB snapshot, €1 = approximately £0.847, and exclude card or bank conversion charges. These are planning comparisons, not a promise that seats at that price remain available.

2027 Central Court sessionCategoryFace valueApprox. sterling
Wednesday 5 May day 11:00Distinti€46 + 10% pre-sale + service charge£39 before charges
Wednesday 5 May evening 19:00Distinti€23 + 10% pre-sale + service charge£19 before charges
Thursday 6 May day 11:00Distinti€57 + 10% pre-sale + service charge£48 before charges
Thursday 6 May evening 19:00Distinti€28 + 10% pre-sale + service charge£24 before charges

A Central Court booking secures your seat for the purchased session. Day and evening are separate products. Before paying, open the access conditions for your chosen ticket and see which other courts it includes; do not assume a reserved seat on every court. The official schedule marks 4 May's Central Court women's singles as accessible with a Ground ticket. Choose that product by its actual published conditions, especially if your priority is a particular show court.

Getting there from the UK

Compare flights into Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA), including baggage, arrival time and the onward journey. Fiumicino is especially straightforward for a Termini-based stay: Trenitalia advertises the non-stop Leonardo express at 32 minutes and €14, approximately £12, one way. That fare was checked on 9 October 2026. The train time begins at the airport station, so allow additional time for immigration, baggage and finding the platform.

The organiser's Ciampino directions use an airport bus to Termini. Check the operator's live departure and fare for your flight, particularly for a late arrival. A cheaper flight is less attractive if it reaches Rome after convenient public transport has finished. For a short break, arrive the day before your booked tennis and keep the airport journey away from your session start. Returning the following morning is usually a more comfortable plan than relying on a match finishing in time for an evening flight.

Getting there on the day

The organiser's route from Termini is Metro A towards Battistini to Ottaviano, using the Via Barletta exit, then bus 32 towards Stazione Saxa Rubra to De Bosis/Stadio Tennis. From Tiburtina, take Metro B to Termini first. Use the tournament directions alongside the transport operator's live journey planner: services, diversions and station access can change between booking and May 2027.

Allow a generous door-to-gate margin for bus waiting, crowds and security. Our suggested margin is a planning choice, not an operator's guaranteed journey time. Save the return route on your phone before arriving, and check the last usable service if you have an evening ticket. If you prefer a taxi, agree the destination and use an authorised service; a car journey can still be delayed by match-day traffic. Keep a screenshot of the venue entrance shown on your ticket, because arriving at the wider Foro Italico is only part of the journey.

Accessibility

Book through the organiser's dedicated accessible-seat process before arranging non-refundable travel. Its 2027 information describes limited reserved sectors and documentary eligibility for the disability discount. It also says that the disabled spectator's purchase must be paired with a companion ticket and limits this route to two different sessions. Ask the ticket office which evidence it accepts from UK visitors and which seating arrangement fits your needs; a UK document may need explanation or translation.

Treat the entire journey as part of the access plan. Ask about the gate, surfaces, distances, toilets and the route from your seat to refreshments. A standard hotel listing marked accessible is a starting point: confirm the room doorway, bathroom and lift details directly. For transport, check the live accessibility of the Metro station and bus before choosing the organiser's standard route. Build rest time into a long session and agree how your companion or group will meet if you separate.

Entry requirements for UK visitors

Entry information was checked on 9 October 2026 for visitors using a full British citizen passport. For a short tourist trip to Italy, the passport must have been issued less than ten years before arrival and expire at least three months after leaving the Schengen area. Visa-free visits are limited to 90 days in any 180 across the whole Schengen area, including earlier trips. Carry accommodation and return-travel details. Always check GOV.UK before you book.

The Entry/Exit System may involve fingerprints and a photograph at the border; registration is free and needs no advance application. Allow extra time for border formalities. GOV.UK says ETIAS is expected from Autumn 2026; no action is required from travellers at this point, checked 11 October 2026. Check the official EU page again before your 2027 trip, because its launch could affect what you need. Passport nationality, residence and longer stays can change the rules.

For ETIAS, check the official launch position again before your 2027 journey. GOV.UK currently says no action is required from travellers at this point; do not apply until the official process opens.

Where to stay

We may earn a commission if you book through our Booking.com links, at no extra cost to you.

Pick your base by the journey you will repeat, not just the cheapest room. A hotel near the Foro Italico makes tennis days simpler; a central base gives you more choice on a sightseeing day. The areas below are starting points for a hotel search, with routes to check against the exact property. Prices vary with room type, cancellation terms and your dates, so compare the complete stay.

For an evening session, look particularly closely at check-in arrangements and the return trip. A flexible booking can help while you choose tickets. Make a weekend of it

Use one day for tennis and one for the city. On arrival, unpack, test the route towards the venue and have an unhurried dinner. On tennis day, eat breakfast before travelling and arrive with enough time to find your seat and facilities. During a long session, take a meal break when your ticket and the match schedule allow it. Keep sightseeing bookings away from the end of play; tennis rarely follows a precise finish time.

For the city day, choose one major visit, such as the Colosseum area or the Vatican Museums, then leave the rest flexible. Check each attraction's own ticketing and opening arrangements before paying. A walk through the historic centre and a riverside pause can be a better recovery day than another packed itinerary. May tennis is outdoors: take a hat, sunscreen and a light rain layer, check the forecast, and read the tournament's bag and bottle rules before packing. Take a card or phone wallet, plus a backup.

More tennis nearby

Rome belongs naturally in a clay-season plan with Madrid and Monte-Carlo, then Roland-Garros in Paris. These are separate trips with different dates and travel distances, so compare each guide before combining them. A Rome weekend is a complete tennis holiday on its own; adding another tournament is worthwhile only if you have enough time between sessions for comfortable travel.

If you prefer your next break closer to home, the UK grass events provide another route into live tennis. Start with the first-tennis-trip guide for the ticket vocabulary, then use the individual tournament page for the exact court and entry rules. Switching from a Masters event to a Grand Slam changes the booking process and the size of the site, even when the basic spectator etiquette stays familiar.
