2027 planning: The organizer confirms 19 April–2 May 2027 for the full event. Choose the exact stadium and session in the official ticket store.
The tournament in brief
The Mutua Madrid Open brings ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tennis to the Caja Mágica on outdoor clay. The organizer confirms the full 2027 event from 19 April to 2 May. That range includes the opening part of the tournament, so check your chosen day’s programme before assuming it is a main-draw show-court session. Madrid suits a short city break as well as a longer tennis holiday: choose the ticket first, then fit museums, meals and neighbourhood walks around it.
The venue sits south of the historic centre, not beside the main tourist squares. Give the tournament journey its own space in your plan. A hotel near a useful Metro connection can make an early start and a late return easier than a room selected simply because it looks close on a city map. Check the hotel-to-platform walk as well as the train route.
For variety, visit during the earlier rounds when you can build a day around more courts and different players. The later stages appeal if you want the atmosphere of the deciding rounds. A session ticket promises the session, not a particular name: the draw, results and order of play determine who is scheduled. Bring sun protection and a light layer; long hours watching from a seat feel different from a short walk through central Madrid.

Tickets and choosing a session
Prices vary by day and seat. The official ticket site shows live prices.
Use the ticket link on mutuamadridopen.com and choose the day, session, stadium and seat together. A Manolo Santana ticket includes that stadium, Stadium 3 and the Tennis Garden; a Stadium 2 ticket covers Stadium 2 and the Tennis Garden. A ground pass covers Stadium 3 and the Tennis Garden, with capacity limits. These are different products, so choose based on the courts you want, not just the ticket label.
Day and night sessions need separate planning. A night ticket admits you when its session opens, and an earlier session does not give you the later stadium seat. Check the live start time before booking dinner or an airport transfer. If you want both sessions, compare the price of two tickets with the amount of time you can comfortably spend at the venue.
The official store publishes 2027 products, but the displayed event-wide starting price is not a dependable quotation for a particular round and session. Use the live booking summary for comparable seat prices. Ticket costs are in euros; approximate sterling here uses €1=£0.84698, the ECB reference rate on 8 October 2026. The organizer’s 2027 terms specify a €2 service charge, about £1.69, so check the checkout total as well as the seat tariff.
The historical examples below are the base Category 2 tariffs printed in the organiser’s 2026 schools brochure, before its separate schools discount. They are not 2027 offers. Centre Court admission covered Manolo Santana, with Stadium 3 and the Tennis Garden subject to capacity. Sterling uses the ECB rate on 9 October 2026 (€1 = £0.84763), rounded to the nearest pound; booking charges are extra.

Getting there from the UK
Fly to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and choose a flight that gives you room to settle in before tennis. Arrival the previous day is useful if your visit rests on one important session. Compare the complete cost of cabin bags, the airport transfer and any late hotel arrival when looking at airfares. A cheap flight with an awkward arrival can use up much of a two-night break.
The Airport Express bus connects the airport with central Madrid. EMT currently quotes €5 per journey, approximately £4.23 using the dated rate above, checked 9 October 2026. Madrid’s tourism page displays a slightly different fare, so use the transport operator’s current tariff before departure. EMT gives normal-traffic journey estimates from Atocha of 30 minutes toT 1,35 toT 2 and 40 toT 4. Add waiting, baggage and your hotel walk to those vehicle times.
The service runs through the night, but the overnight central stop is Cibeles rather than Atocha. That distinction is useful when choosing a hotel for an unusually late flight. Metro and rail can also be sensible depending on your terminal and accommodation; compare the exact route on the official journey planner. Keep a saved copy of your hotel address and do not schedule a museum booking close to your expected airport arrival.

Getting there on the day
San Fermín-Orcasur on Metro line 3 is the usual rail starting point for the final walk. Madrid’s official tourism information places it roughly 750–800 metres from the venue entrance. Plan that walk as part of the journey, especially in strong sunshine, with children or when carrying a bag. Find the entrance printed on your ticket and check whether security affects the approach on your chosen day.
Choose a departure that allows for a missed train, the walk and entry checks. Save the return route before you arrive, including the last service if you are attending a night session. On leaving, the crowd will be moving toward the same stops, so a tight restaurant booking can become stressful. A direct Metro connection from your hotel is often useful even if the room is a little further from the tourist centre.
The official event page lists bus options as well, but match-day arrangements can vary. Check EMT for the 2027 route and stop details before relying on a tournament shuttle. If taking a taxi, agree the pickup location away from a blocked or congested gate. Put the venue’s name and your hotel address on your phone so you can show them clearly when asking for help after a long evening.

Accessibility
Wheelchair tickets are handled by the organizer’s ticket department: contact entradas@madrid-open.com before buying. Explain the date and session you want, your space requirements and whether you are travelling with a companion. Confirm the arrangement in writing before paying for accommodation. Other access needs also deserve an early enquiry; an ordinary reserved seat may involve steps or a route that does not suit you.
The official San Fermín-Orcasur station plan shows lifts. Check their live status and the accessible route through every station used on the journey. The walk from the Metro remains a separate part of the day, and the shortest route is not always the most comfortable one. Ask the organizer about the correct entrance, drop-off point, accessible toilets and the route to the exact stadium you have booked.
For your hotel, confirm the room and bathroom details with the property and ask how the entrance works. If you tire easily, choose a simple route and plan a seated break before the afternoon or evening tennis. Carry any essential medication in your day bag after checking the event’s permitted-item rules. Have a backup arrival option so a lift outage or travel disruption does not force a difficult last-minute decision.

Entry requirements for UK visitors
GOV.UK entry advice was checked on 9 October 2026. A full British citizen passport must have been issued less than ten years before arrival and be valid for at least three months after your planned departure from the Schengen area. Short tourist trips generally use the 90-days-in-180 Schengen allowance. Include other recent visits when checking your total, even when those trips were to different Schengen countries.
Keep your hotel confirmation, return or onward ticket and insurance details accessible; border staff can ask for supporting documents. EES registration may include a photo and fingerprints and is free. Allow extra time at the airport and follow the border staff’s instructions. Always check GOV.UK before you book and again before travelling, including whether ETIAS applies by your departure date.
Madrid uses the euro. Take a payment card or phone wallet plus a backup and check your bank’s exchange fees. Choose a euro transaction if a terminal offers to convert it into sterling for you, then let your own provider handle the conversion according to its terms. During the tournament Madrid is one hour ahead of the UK. Keep flight, hotel and tennis times in local time so that an evening ticket is not confused with the television schedule at home.
For ETIAS, check the official launch position again before your 2027 journey. GOV.UK currently says no action is required from travellers at this point; do not apply until the official process opens.

Where to stay

Pick a hotel with a route you are happy to repeat after a late session. Sol and Gran Vía put you in the centre of the city; Atocha suits a museum-led break and airport travel; Lavapiés offers a lively neighbourhood base. Legazpi can make sense if you value a simpler line 3 connection over being beside the biggest tourist sights. Compare the precise address with your chosen stations.
Read room descriptions for lift access, air conditioning and noise, especially if you want to sleep after a late night and leave early the following day. A room above a lively street may feel different at midnight from its daytime photographs. Look at cancellation deadlines and the total stay price before committing, then save the route from the hotel door to the tournament gate.

Make a weekend of it
For a first two-night trip, arrive on Friday, walk around the area near the hotel and keep the evening meal easy. Give Saturday to tennis and leave Sunday for a relaxed city outing before your flight. If you are buying a night session, you can use the morning for a short visit elsewhere, but avoid filling it with too much walking before several hours in the stands.
The Prado, Retiro and the streets around the historic centre offer different ways to spend a non-tennis day. Choose one major museum and reserve its official timed entry if required; do not try to squeeze several museums between a hotel checkout and a flight. Keep a neighbourhood café or park walk as a flexible alternative when a long match changes your energy level or the weather makes outdoor plans less appealing.
For a one-day tournament visit, start with a proper breakfast, reach the area early and identify your stadium entrance before looking for refreshments. Choose one main court session and one optional extra court. Build in time for lunch, water and a break from the sun. Save the order of play and check it again during the day; a changed court or a long match can make your original plan unnecessary. Eat near your hotel afterwards so the final journey ends where you want to rest.

More tennis nearby
Monte-Carlo and Rome are useful comparisons if you want another Masters trip on European clay. Roland-Garros in Paris offers a Grand Slam programme with different ticket choices and a longer visit. Use each destination’s own guide when deciding on dates and hotels: these are separate breaks, not nearby venues you can casually add to the same Madrid evening.
The worldwide directory lets you compare other Spanish tournaments and the wider European season. Start with the event level and playing surface, then check the journey from your home airport and the hotel-to-gate route. A 250 can suit a smaller, more manageable visit, while a combined 1000 is attractive if you want both tours in one trip. Choose the city and ticket arrangement you would enjoy even before you know the final entry list.
