Plan the whole visit: Wimbledon
Start with comfort and the ticket you hold
Choose clothes you can sit, walk and spend a long outdoor day in. A favourite shirt, trousers or a summer dress can all form a practical outfit; add layers you can remove without carrying a separate wardrobe. Treat these suggestions as outfit advice, and check the entry conditions for the actual rules attached to your ticket.
The official 2026 Debenture Handbook says there is “no requirement for men to wear a jacket or tie in the debenture restaurants”. That statement concerns the debenture restaurants. For hospitality or an invitation to a restricted area, ask your provider about its own clothing requirements before you dress for the day.
You do not need to copy a television guest’s outfit to enjoy the tennis. A comfortable choice that works with your journey and the forecast is more useful than an outfit chosen solely for a photograph. Keep jewellery and accessories manageable, and check that you can carry everything inside your permitted bag.

Pack for the forecast and the evening
Look at the forecast for your own day, then choose a light layer and waterproof protection that fit into your bag. Do not base a packing decision on a photograph from last year’s final. Warm sunshine, a cooler evening and an outdoor wait call for different layers, so make your outfit easy to adjust.
Bring sun protection and sunglasses if conditions warrant them, and choose a hat that you can remove easily when seated. Think about the people behind you when selecting its size. Keep a layer within reach while watching, so you do not have to unpack everything if you become cold.
Centre Court and No.1 Court have retractable roofs, but getting there and moving around the grounds still involves outdoor travel. A roofed court ticket does not make every part of the visit weatherproof. If you plan to queue, dress for the wait as well as the time on court, and protect your phone and ticket information from rain.

Choose shoes for the whole journey
Wear shoes you already trust for a substantial walk. Try the outfit together before your visit, including whatever socks or insoles you intend to use. If a pair hurts on the way to the station, it is unlikely to improve after an outdoor wait and a day moving between courts.
Choose footwear for your route and comfort needs. Flat shoes or trainers may be a sensible choice for many visitors; these are practical suggestions, not an invented admission requirement. If you prefer a smarter shoe, make sure it has already proved comfortable over the distance you expect to walk.
Consider the return trip when making that choice. You may leave with less energy than you arrived, and transport can involve additional standing. Check the organiser’s arrival information and your hotel’s final walk. Keep any essential comfort items compact enough to carry in your permitted bag.

Measure your bag and read the entry conditions
The official 2026 Debenture Handbook gives the bag-size wording “no larger than 40cm x 30cm x 30cm” and specifies one bag per person. Measure your packed bag before leaving: a loosely folded tote can become much larger once filled. The same space needs to accommodate your layer, food, water and everyday essentials.
Arrange storage for larger luggage before reaching the grounds, and check the current service’s location and conditions. A hotel may be able to keep your case, but ask before relying on it. Do not assume that a travel bag suitable for your train or flight is also suitable for Wimbledon admission.
Read the current conditions of entry for prohibited items and any clothing restrictions before travelling. Keep food containers and accessories compatible with those rules. The 2026 comparisons help you prepare, while the organiser will confirm the next edition’s visitor arrangements nearer the event. Finish packing early enough to remove unnecessary items instead of trying to solve a luggage problem at the gate.

Wimbledon clothing FAQs
Must I wear a jacket or tie?
The quoted 2026 rule above says they are not required in the debenture restaurants. Ask your own hospitality or restricted-area provider about its requirements.
Can I wear comfortable shoes?
Choose shoes that suit your walk and read the current entry conditions. The footwear suggestions here are practical advice, not a new admission rule.
Should I bring a waterproof?
A compact waterproof layer is useful if the forecast suggests rain. You still travel outdoors even with a seat in a roofed court.
Can I bring a suitcase into the grounds?
A case larger than the quoted bag-size allowance needs separate storage. Check luggage arrangements before your visit.
Where can I check the full rules?
Use Wimbledon’s official conditions of entry and the visitor information for your edition. Check your package provider too if you have hospitality.
